In 2017, Pride Fort Lauderdale moved to Fort Lauderdale Beach for its 40th anniversary, attracting 40,000 people. These funds support Pride Fort Lauderdale's advancement of its mission to foster pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally. Pride Fort Lauderdale raises funds primarily through festival tickets and beverage sales, and through sponsorships, and exhibitor fees. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1993, Pride Fort Lauderdale today continues to bring together the skills, talents, and visions of our diverse community to create the annual Pride Parade and Festival. Born in 1977 out of protest in response to Anita Bryant’s "Save Our Children" campaign that portrayed gays as child molesters and successfully moved to repeal of the anti. Pride Fort Lauderdale, formerly known as Pride South Florida, is the oldest Pride celebration in the state of Florida.
